EVP Hirotsugu Takizawa: A Few Things to Keep in Mind during the Holidays

With COVID-19 infections on the rise in Japan, students are reminded to take extra precautions over the next few weeks, as many people are expected to travel across prefectural borders during the Obon period and school holidays.

Tohoku University's own summer vacation will run from August 13 - September 30. During this time, students must make sure that they can receive DC Mail, so that they don't miss important notices.

Students are also advised to stay up-to-date on the latest COVID-19 information from the national and regional government websites and news media. The university's official websites will carry important campus-related news so students should check the sites regularly.

Summer holidays is usually a time for fun and relaxation. But due to the on-going pandemic, students are reminded to monitor their health, and continue to adhere to preventive measures. These include:

  • Washing hands often, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing
  • Avoid eating/drinking in groups or participating in large events
  • Avoid the 3Cs: closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings
  • Avoid part time jobs with exposure to the 3Cs

Several university advisories have been updated recently, so please check the following again:

The Emergency Action Plan (BCP):

The university is still at Level 1, but some adjustments have been made to better reflect the current situation. (pdf)

Students who wish to return to their hometown may do so, but should check their destination for cases of infection and make safe choices. Recreational and unnecessary travel is strongly discouraged. There is a list of "high alert areas" listed on the university's COVID-19 information page. All students should avoid those areas if possible.

Extracurricular Activities:

From August 7, the university will move to Phase 2 of its resumption of extracurricular activities. Students will now be able to use a wider range of facilities, by following the guidelines here.

Gakuseishien Dayori 365体育|365体育投注@letter:

The latest newsletter (pdf) reminds students that aside from being aware of the dangers posed by COVID-19, they must also adhere to the general rules of good behavior while on vacation, especially with regards to alcohol and drugs, online etiquette and road safety. Students involved in an accident must report it to their faculty/graduate school.

As representatives of Tohoku University, students should behave sensibly and responsibly. Have fun this summer, but please stay safe.
